Carrie Preston (Director)

Carrie made her film debut as one of the two sexy, Southern bridesmaid sisters in the Julia Robert’s blockbuster "MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING". Her subsequent film credits include "MERCURY RISING" with Bruce Willis; "FOR RICHER OR POORER", with Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley. "GUINEVERE", with Sarah Polley. She played the lead in the independent film "The JOURNEY", with Roshan Seth. She appeared in Robert Redford’s "THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE". She had a pivotal role in "WOMAN WANTED", starring Holly Hunter and Keifer Sutherland, who also directed the film. She appeared in the recent "STEPFORD WIVES" remake and can currently be seen in the independent film "TRANS AMERICA" with Felicity Huffman. She starred in last year’s SRO Picture’s independent hit “STRAIGHT-JACKET” directed by Richard Day.

On television, she was a series regular on the sitcom "EMERIL", starring the chef Emeril Lagasse. She also made guest appearances on such shows as "WONDER FALLS"; "LAW AND ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT"; "SEX AND THE CITY"; "SPIN CITY"; "UNION SQUARE"; "SIGNIFICANT OTHERS"; "TRINITY". She has done several televison pilots, including "TWO FAMILIES", "ALL ABOUT US" and "CUTTY WHITMAN", all for CBS, and "FIVE HOUSES" for Fox. She also appeared in the movie of the week "GRACE AND GLORIE", with Gena Rowlands and Diane Lane.

Trained at the Juilliard School, she made her Broadway debut as Miranda in "THE TEMPEST" with Patrick Stewart and directed by George C. Woolf, which garnered her an Outer Critics Circle nomination. Off-Broadway, she cross-dressed as Octavius Caesar in Vanessa Redgrave’s production of "ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA" at the Public Theater, with Redgrave as Cleopatra. At Lincoln Center Theater, she played the female lead in the New York debut of John Guare’s "CHAUCER IN ROME", directed by Nicholas Martin. Also in New York: "BOYS AND GIRLS" and "FREEDOMLAND" at Playwrights Horizons, "STRAIGHT-JACKET" at Playhouse 91, "THE LIBERTINE" on Theatre Row. Regionally, she played Honey in the critically acclaimed Guthrie Theater production of "WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?", with Patrick Stewart and Mercedes Ruehl. She also played Bianca in "THE TAMING OF THE SHREW" at the Williamstown Theater Festival, opposite Roger Rees and Bebe Neuwirth. Other regional theater includes the recent James Lapine play, "FRAN’S BED" at the Long Wharf Theater, playing Mia Farrow’s daughter. She has also done lead roles at Baltimore Center Stage, and Shakespeare Festivals in California, Georgia, Alabama, and Utah.

As a director, "29TH AND GAY" is her first independent digital feature. She also directed the one-act "FEET OF CLAY", which was a winner of the 2004 Samuel French One-Act competition. Her current directing venture is "GIRL TALK" at the Barrow Group in NYC.

Carrie recently starred in "THE RIVALS" in Lincoln Center's Broadway house with " STRAIGHT-JACKET " co-star, Matt Letscher.

She grew up in Macon, Georgia and is married to actor Michael Emerson.
